Toile Christmas for Freshly Made Sketcches

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

The team across at Freshly Made have another fabulous sketch for us all this week.

I knew immediately what I wanted to do with this sketch and went rushing down to my craft room.   2 hours later I was still nowhere on creating the card.  Why?  I cannot find my stitched circle dies. A N Y W H E R E!  Poof!  They have just disappeared.  I just don't know how I could lose an entire set of dies.  I looked everywhere for them.  Now, I'm a pretty tidy crafter and put everything away after I've used it - and tidy my craft table before finishing up for the day..... so it's pretty difficult to lose something - especially a whole set of dies.  As the stitched circle dies are the ONLY circle dies I have, I was pretty much out of luck, so had to find something else to take the place of the circle.

In the end, I settled on my new textured background dies.  I love the negative space that they create and decided to pop up that layer, so that you can really see the negative space.

I colored the cardinal with my Caran d'Ache pencils and die cut him, and the branch with the matching dies.  I added the rectangluar element - it was perfect for the sentiment.  I really wanted to show that, even though this is a Christmas set, it could be used for other occasions.

Here's my card:

Once again, I used a multitude of different reds, oranges, burgundies, blues and greens to create the color on the Cardinal.  I am getting better about creating areas of "light" and "dark", but still need lots and lots more practice.

Here's a closeup of the pencil strokes, hopefully you can see some of the different colors and how I'm trying to create texture of feathers with the pencils.

I really do think this is one of my favorite SU sets and it is certainly going to see a lot of ink over the next couple of months.  :-)

I hope you will play along with the FMS sketch this week - the design team have out done themselves with their inspiration cards!

I did manage to make two other cards whilst I was in my craft room today, so will be back later in the week to share those with you.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs
Jaydee

This is such a lovely birthday card! I just love that cardinal! I think cardinals are my favourite bird! He stands out so nicely against the white background! Hope you find those dies soon! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

I love that the only color is on the cardinal, but you have such great texture and layers! Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches!

What a perfect 'save' you've created. Love the layering, and the cardinal is gorgeous. I'm constantly losing 'things' and usually find them under something I don't ever remember moving; or in a different room altogether. Good luck! ( Being a quick learner, now If it's something I've made a print of the first place I look is on the printer platen. It's very frustrating ....Good luck!
