Colorful Cockatoo for Paper Players #467

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

It's the fabulous Claire's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week - and it's color week:

Mmmm.... these colors scared the heck of out of me:-) and it wasn't just because I don't have them in my collection either.  Bermuda Bay was never one of my go to SU colors and purple.... well, 'nuff said about purple:-). However, I do love the challenge of being forced to get out of my comfort zone and do something different.  So, I'm thanking Claire for that!

I was really tempted to go a floral route, but I realized I could play with something new that Lou brought back from Australia this week.  He went to a scrapbooking store (what a guy!) and looked around for some Australiana supplies.  One of them is this Cockatoo die cut.  Now, a cockatoo is white with a yellow crest, but I decided he needed to be something totally different.  Originally I was blending colors on the positive die-cut, but when I pulled it away and saw the negative space that was left, I decided that was the route I would go instead.

So, I know no-one would ever recognize this as a cockatoo... but I do like how the colors came together.

I hope you will join us and play along with Claire's challenge this week.  We'd love to see what you create.  In the meantime, the design team have some wonderful inspiration for your:

On a personal note:

I was able to spend some quality time in my craft room yesterday, escaping the cold, dull, wet weather outside.  So, I will have a couple more cards to share with you.  Today, I need to see if I can get downstairs and make some Christmas cards, I am really behind this year.  This year seems to have gone from January to November in the blink of an eye and I can honestly say that I am not ready for the cold, wet, winter weather!  But, I do look forward to our first real snowfall :-)  I'll be back later with another card, in the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift today.

I just love that Lou did a little crafty shopping for you on his trip! He made a solid choice with this little cockatoo, for sure. I just love how this little birdie came to life in the challenge colors, all while keeping the design crisp and clean. Gorgeous!

Wow, I am sure my hubby would NEVER go to a scrapbook store while out of the country, LOL! What a pretty bird you've created with your die and colors! Very cool indeed!

This is just fab Jaydee! I love to use negative space in interesting ways and this is so clever - your delicate sponging totally brings that cockatoo to life! I think you made these colours work really well, including the purple ;-) As for Lou - what a sweetie bringing you craft goodies from his trip; he really is a keeper!

Love how creative you were with the negative space for the bird! Love the clean and simple plus the stitching. With purple being my fav color in the world...I have to encourage you to give it a chance! You worked it perfectly here!
