Birthday Fishes for Just Us Girls #524

Hi Everyone.

Happy Monday.

Some of you may have read this post where I talked about having a card image in my head based on the sketch across at FMS (it really reminded me of an upside down fish bowl)!  Well, that didn't materialize for that card as I went in a totally different direction.   However, when I saw this photo across at the Just Us Girls Challenge I knew that I HAD to make a fishy card!

Screen Shot 2020-02-24 at 4.45.59 PM

I have a piece of DSP from an SU set called See a Silhouette.  Well, there is one piece in there that was perfect for the background.  So, all I had to do was cut it to size and run it through my Big Shot with a stitched rectangle die and adhere it to the card base.  The, I had to go and make some brightly colored fish and some greenery!

I had such fun coloring the little fishies.  I started with Copics and then added density and texture with my pencils.  I couldn't help myself... I had to add some glitter pen to parts of the fish and the greenery to give it a little shimmer and shine.  However, it does make the coloring look a little odd in spots when you see the whole card!  Here's a closeup:

Honestly.. I can't get over how perfect this paper is for the background.  As I die-cut the elements, I colored the edges with blue copics as I didn't want the white edges to jump off the page.  Here's my card:

I took a piece of left over DSP and used to that stamp and heat set my sentiment.  I adhered it with some foam tape.  All that was left was to use my glitter pen to add some bubbles above the mouth of the fish.    I promise you that the white bits at the bottom of the DSP are NOT left over pieces of white embossing powder that I forgot to brush off!  They really are part of the paper.  I positioned the paper so that it looked as though the sun was coming from the top left hand corner.  I had such fun creating this card and it will be going off in the pack to SendASmile4Kids!

On a personal note:

I don't normally share photos of me lying in bed!  But I had to share this shot of Charlie.  He's been sick this last week and it was made much worse by the vet mis-diagnosing him!  Not a happy camper about that, I can tell you!  Anyway, I took this photo at about 2am as I wanted to share it with Lou.  This is where Charlie spends every night.  Cuddled up next to me.

Look at those little paws all curled up.  When he finally gets warm, he stretches out and runs his front paws up my arm and puts his little paws in my hand..... so unbelievably sweet!

When I'm watching TV at night, he settles into "his cushion" on the back of the chair.  You can see by the dent in it how often he is there.  If you have a look at that face... he's completely focused on his tail.  It must have been very bad, cos he kept swatting at it and trying to stop it from flicking backwards and forwards.  When it did not obey his insistent commands, he bit it and hissed at it!

Anyway... enough of Charlie!  I'll be back tomorrow with another card.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs

I love what you did with this card, bright fishes make the most of that Silhouettes background paper!
And there can never be enough of Charlie! I love black and white cats, but even still, he is exceptionally cute and sweet.

Those bright fishes are great Jaydee and that paper works really well for an underwater scene - I must remember that one! I love this paper but find the bold patterns and colours a little intimidating, even for a DSP lover like me!

Adorable card and cat. I do hope he is feeling better soon.

Stef Perry

Both your card and Charlie are so sweet, Jaydee. I do hope he recovers quickly. You're right about that paper, it's the perfect undersea background for the vibrant fishes, and I love all the glitter!

Your bright, colourful sparkly fish and seaweed are absolutely delightful! So glad that the photo inspired you to create this both for the JUGS and sketch challenge! It's a smile-maker in every way! Thrilled to see you in the Just Us Girls gallery!

Wow! This colorful undersea scene is absolutely delightful . I love the amazing dark blue background and those fun fishes. Thanks so much for playing along with us at Just Us girls.

Thanks, Margaret! I so agree..... black and white cats are special and this one certainly stole my heart - even though I spent a couple of weeks trying to find him a home when we picked him up in the middle of nowhere. I'm so glad we weren't able to re-home him :-)

Joanne, agree.... I thought I was going to love the paper, but have used so little of it because the colors are so strong!
