Happy Wednesday.
I decided to showcase some Christmas cards I am making and share them as "12 cards of Christmas". So, on the first card of Christmas I give to thee - a Poinsettia... but not in a pear tree :-)
I promised to show you a fully Stampin' Up! card that I had made using the colors from Joanne's gorgeous color challenge across at the Paper Players this week. I made this card using Poinsettia Petals and paired it with some metallic mirror silver card stock. You can see the original card I made for the challenge at this post. As a reminder, here are Joanne's colors:
As my card for the original challenge featured gold, I decided to go with silver as my metallic accent and... I finally... stamped the poinsettia in red!
My Paper Player sister should be proud of me on this card... LOTS of layers! I stamped the poinsettia and die cut it. I die-cut some berries and stamped and die-cut some leaves. I also stamped and die-cut the sentiment. I addition, there are a couple of layers of metallic card stock!
Here's my card:
I used the one of the smaller stamps - and the sentiment - for the envelope, too
Did you see the additional texture from the Bricks and Mortar embossing folder? Here's a closeup:
I really do love these colors together and hope that you will join us and play along with Joanne's challenge.
On a personal note:
Well, it was in the 70s last week - insanely warm for this time of the year. However, we came down to earth with a bang yesterday when it dropped to the 20s! We also had our second major storm of the year - almost 1 month since our last one! The last couple of days have been dull and dark - however, today was one of those glorious winter days we get in Minnesota. The sun was shining brightly, the sky was a gorgeous pale blue - and the snow looked fresh and gorgeous!
As it is Veteran's Day, I wanted to pay tribute to all those veterans that have served - and continue to serve. My father was a vet as were many of my cousins and uncles. Growing up my father would have his "black spells". We didn't know it at the time, but I think we can be pretty sure that he was suffering from PTSD. Over the years I have done a lot of research about vets and PTSD and today found two charities that combine two of my loves - vets and pets! In honor of my father - and others in my family who served, I donated to these two agencies today. If you are interested in helping them out - you can find their information here:
If you are interested in finding out other ways to help our vets you can check out charities such as Wounded Warrior. According to research - up to a third of veterans suffer will from PTSD over their lifetime, more than 1 vet loses their life to suicide every day of the year and, in any single day, up to 40,000 vets are homeless. They defend our lives and deserve our help.
I'll be back tomorrow with another card in my 12 Cards of Christmas. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers to those of you who need a little lift tonight - including our service men and women.
Hugs
Jaydee
Card recipe:
- Card stock: Neenah Solar White - 110#
- Stamps: Poinsettia Petals - Stampin' Up!
- Dies: Stitched Rectangles, Poinsettia Petals - Stampin' Up!
You created two fabulous cards with my colours Jaydee - I didn't think anything could top yesterday's card but this a strong contender! I love the texture of the brick and stitched detail, flashes of silver and the way you used the stamps just as outline and didn't colour them in - so effective. I think I'm going to CASE this one as I have everything- yay!!
